The Cedar Island Gazette

Mr. Richard Merriman has been the editor-in-chief of the Cedar Island Gazette ever since he moved to the island from Ireland almost ten years ago with his wife and daughters. He runs his newspaper office like a drill sergeant, and more than once a young reporter or journalist has been found asleep at their desk after midnight, attempting to finish all of their assigned paperwork despite the usual slow pace and lack of breaking news due to the island’s small size. Most of the desks in the newsroom are neat and tidy, as Mr. Merriman has been known to be set off by the littlest things when he’s in a particularly bad mood.

You notice a desk in the back corner of the room, though, tucked away in a windowless nook, that has stacks of papers covering nearly every inch of the desk surface. If you shuffled some of the stacks around, you would find a nameplate buried under them, with black text reading PIPER MERRIMAN. It appears that the editor’s daughter likely does not dream of following a career path that mirrors her father’s, and she appears not to be too worried about her job security, either.
